The sun shines brighter
Blinds eyes to sweet direction
Space which spots and sky shares
Eyes water, make their protection
Eyelids close to block a glare
Despite efforts, shades remain
To walk sightless into the future
She finds herself turning back
Looking at what she can see
But will never more be
Winter’s chill behind
Summer’s warmth ahead
In between is limbo
And brings her dread
To change
She trembles
Eyes water, search for protection
The shadow grows longer
The closer she walks to the light
To forget, she cannot
The light bleeds through
Inevitably, it will reach its goal
Farewell, good night
She’s had her fill of good-byes
But the sun shines bright
Where is the beauty in this white light?
She turns to the side
It’s hard to see what’s present
Certain it will be carried by the tide
She sits, waits, alone and bent
Renewal, she will agree
The season is that indeed
A reminder of what’s passed
And what soon is but weed
Plucked and thrown from the flowerbed
Yet her weeds grow tall
She waters them today
Protection from the light
As shadows lengthen in the ray
Blinds eyes to sweet direction
Space which spots and sky shares
Eyes water, make their protection
Eyelids close to block a glare
Despite efforts, shades remain
To walk sightless into the future
She finds herself turning back
Looking at what she can see
